Chapter XXXII

Of the State of Men after Death, and of the

Resurrection of the Dead

I.           The bodies of men, after death, return to dust, and see corruption:[565] but their souls, which neither die

nor sleep, having an immortal subsistence, immediately return to God who gave them:[566] the souls of the

righteous, being then made perfect in holiness, are received into the highest heavens, where they behold the face

of God, in light and glory, waiting for the full redemption of their bodies.[567] And the souls of the wicked are cast

into hell, where they remain in torments and utter darkness, reserved to the judgment of the great day.

[568] Beside these two places, for souls separated from their bodies, the Scripture acknowledges none.

II.          At the last day, such as are found alive shall not die, but be changed:[569] and all the dead shall be raised up,

with the selfsame bodies, and none other (although with different qualities), which shall be united again to their

souls forever.[570]

III.         The bodies of the unjust shall, by the power of Christ, be raised to dishonor: the bodies of the just, by His

Spirit, unto honor; and be made conformable to His own glorious body.[571]

제32장 사후(死後) 상태와 죽은 자의 부활

1. 인간의 육체는 사후(死後)에 흙으로 돌아가 썩게 되나(창3:19; 행13:36) 영혼(결코 죽거나 잠들지 않음)은 불멸적인 본

질을 가지고 있기 때문에 그것을 주신 하나님께로 즉시 돌아간다(눅23:43; 전12:7). 의인의 영혼은 죽는 순간에 즉시 거

룩함으로 완전케 되어 지극히 높은 천국에 들어가 거기서 빛과 영광 가운데 하나님의 얼굴을 뵈오며, 몸의 완전한 구속

을 기다린다(히12:23; 고후5:1,6,8; 빌1:23; 행3:21; 엡4:10). 그러나 사악한 자의 영혼은 즉시 지옥에 던지어져 거기서 고통

과 칠흑 같은 어두움 가운데 지내며, 마지막 날에 심판을 기다리게 되어 있는 것이다(눅16:23,24; 행1:25;유6,7; 벧전

3:19). 성경은 육신이 죽은 후에 영혼이 갈 곳으로 이 두 장소(지옥과 천국) 외에는 아무 곳도 인정하지 않고 있다.

2. 마지막 날에 살아 남아 있는 자들은 죽지 않고 변화될 것이로되(살전4:17; 고전15:51,52), 죽은 자들은 모두 전과 같은

몸으로 부활케 될 것이다.그러나 그 부활한 몸은 질적인 면에서 전과 같지가 않으며 그 몸은 그 영혼과 영원토록 결합될

것이다(욥19:26,27; 고전15:42-44).

3. 불의한 자들의 몸은 그리스도의 능력으로 말미암아 부활하여 굴욕 받게 되나 의로운 자들의 몸은 그의 성령으로 말

미암아 부활하여 영광에 이르며 그리스도 자신의 영화로운 몸을 닮게 될 것이다(행24:15; 요5:28,29; 고전15:43; 빌3:21).
